GMA T50s
The GMA T.50s Niki Lauda is one of the most extreme and innovative modern supercars ever created. Developed by Gordon Murray and his company Gordon Murray Automotive, the car represents the track-only evolution of the road-going GMA T.50. Built as a tribute to legendary Formula 1 champion Niki Lauda, the T.50s embodies Murray’s philosophy of lightweight engineering and pure driver engagement.
At the heart of the T.50s lies a naturally aspirated 3.9-litre V12 engine developed with Cosworth. The high-revving engine produces around 725 horsepower and can spin up to 12,100 rpm, delivering a thrilling soundtrack and lightning-fast throttle response. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox, designed specifically for track performance and rapid gear changes.
One of the most distinctive features of the T.50s is its fan-assisted aerodynamics system. Inspired by Murray’s famous fan car concept used in the Brabham BT46B, the supercar uses a large rear-mounted fan that spins at around 7,000 rpm. This system pulls air from beneath the vehicle to dramatically increase downforce and improve cornering stability. Combined with advanced aerodynamic elements such as a large rear wing, roof scoop, and a stabilizing fin, the T.50s can generate approximately 1,500 kg (3,300 lb) of downforce, more than the car’s own weight at high speeds.
Lightweight construction is another key element of the design. The car weighs just around 852 kg, thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber and minimalist engineering. This extremely low weight gives the T.50s an exceptional power-to-weight ratio comparable to top-tier endurance race cars, allowing for extraordinary acceleration and handling.
Unlike the standard T.50, the T.50s is not road legal and is designed exclusively for track use. Only 25 units will be produced, making it an exceptionally rare collector’s item with a price of roughly £3.1 million. Each car is uniquely named after a Formula 1 victory achieved by a Murray-designed racing car, further reinforcing its motorsport heritage.
